Study of the processes of global warming in upper atmosphere layers of the Caucasus Region

Mr. Sulkhan Sisauri, Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation has visited Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory to attend the presentation of the research project funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.

Within the framework of the project, the research group has been studying the ongoing processes taking place in the upper atmosphere layers of the Caucasus Region in parallel with the global warming and outlined the trends for future development.

The analysis conducted by the researchers was based on the cumulative data gained at the Astrophysical Observatory through several decades. According to Georgian astrophysicists’ statement, studies of the structural and dynamic changes of the atmosphere will contribute to climate change forecast.

This project was funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation in the framework of the State Science Grants Competition in 2007. Three - year project’s budget equaled 150 000 Georgian Laries.
Since 2006, eleven projects with participation of research groups from Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory have been funded in the frame of the grants provided by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
